TWW Roundup: The Beginning of the End?

Success–your calls have worked! Finally, the Justice Department has appointed a Special Counsel to investigate Russia-gate. Former FBI Director, Robert S. Mueller III, was appointed by Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, who is overseeing the investigation because Attorney General Jeff Sessions has recused himself.

Mueller is known for his integrity and independence since he stood up to President George W. Bush in his attempt to re-authorize a secret government surveillance program. Although Mueller was initially appointed by Bush, Obama asked him to stay on and he enjoys bipartisan support. This appointment may just signal the beginning of the end of the tyrannical Trump presidency.

Calls for Impeachment

While the American people have been calling for Trump’s impeachment from the first day he took office, members of Congress, including Democrats, have been hesitant to even discuss it. But last week, Congressman Green (D-TX) spoke on the House floor openly calling for the impeachment of Trump for the first time. And even a Republican, Rep. Justin Amash (MI), suggested it might be time to start proceedings if the allegations related to the Comey memo are true. Continue calling your representatives and pushing for accountability. Our voices are being heard!

Congress

The Senate Intelligence Committee continues to meet on Russia-gate and will hold an OPEN hearing after Memorial Day to hear testimony from Former FBI Director, James Comey, who was leading the investigation into Trump’s ties to Russia-gate before being fired.

Apparently, the House is now getting into the act too. This week the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence will be conducting the Russia Investigation Task Force Hearing. Part of this hearing will be open as well. Keep up those calls to Congress, we are getting closer to our goal!

The SWAMP Act

Last week the Stop Waste and Misuse by the President (SWAMP) Act was introduced by Representative Ted Lieu (D-California). The act would require Trump and others protected by the Secret Service to foot the bill for any travel to a property owned by them–instead of American taxpayers. This means that Trump would have to start footing the bill for all of his Mar-a-Lago trips at the cost of $3.7 million EACH. Contact your members of Congress and tell them to support the SWAMP Act!

Although it seems hopeless at times, this week illustrates that progressive American voices are being heard by Congress. Keep calling, emailing, faxing, tweeting and most importantly–keep showing up by visiting congressional offices and townhalls.
