Activist Tools: Tracking Legislative and Government Data

by | Apr 8, 2017 | Activist Toolkit

This week TWW USA presents three great tracking tools that we think members and affiliates will find useful.

1. Govtrack

GovTrack.us

Tracking legislation and votes in the United States Congress.

Govtrack compiles information on congressional bills and committee actions into a single site. Govtrack allows users to subscribe to alerts for specific members of Congress, track specific bills through the legislative process, or get alerts for bills covering specific subject areas or bills assigned to specific committees.

2. Washington Post’s – Trump Promise Tracker

The Fact Checker’s guide to 60 promises by Donald Trump

Glenn Kessler, Michelle Ye Hee Lee, and Leslie Shapiro are tracking the progress of 60 pledges President Trump made during his campaign. We need to hold this administration accountable to their promises of job growth and economic prosperity, or the consequences could be dire. Italy was finally able to oust Silvio Berlusconi – their billionaire media mogul, now former Prime Minister – by holding him publically accountable to his failed campaign promises. We need to do the same with Trump and his administration. Berlusconi’s political career spanned two decades – we can’t allow Trump that same “benefit of the doubt.”

Data World aims to be “the most meaningful, collaborative, and abundant data resource in the world.” This tool is for the tech-savvy and the data-philes, since most of the datasets are in a fairly raw state. But, for those with the passion for digging information out of data, the possibilities are endless.

Here are some datasets of interest:
