This Week’s GOP Agenda: March 27
Your calls, emails and letters are working! This is a crushing blow to Trump, Ryan and the GOP who had promised conservative voters that they would repeal Obamacare. Congressman Ryan says that we are “stuck” with Obamacare for the foreseeable future, indicating no immediate plans to reintroduce a healthcare bill. Trump has stated he is “moving on” from healthcare. This is amazing news for the millions of Americans who would have been kicked off Medicaid or marketplace insurance had the Republican plan passed!
- On Monday, the Senate will continue hearings on Neil Gorsuch’s nomination to the Supreme Court.
- The Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions is expected to vote on Alexander Acosta’s (Labor) nomination this Thursday after he was questioned for three hours last week.
- With the loss on Trumpcare, Congress will no doubt look to Trump’s proposed budget this week.
A Look Ahead
- Immediately after the defeat of the Obamacare repeal, Trump and the GOP said they would start working on the tax revisions promised since the election. These tax revisions will benefit the wealthy and corporations while placing more burden on the middle and lower classes. And while the GOP plans tax breaks for the wealthy, marches are being planned across the country on April 15th to let Trump know that voters still want him to honor his campaign promise and release his taxes.
