AG Sessions must resign
Remember that time when Elizabeth Warren tried to read a letter from Dr. King’s widow, warning the Senate about Jeff Sessions? They silenced her. She said, “They can shut me up, but they can’t change the truth.” Well, the truth is coming for Attorney General Jeff Sessions.
Democratic leaders including House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and Sen. Elizabeth Warren have called on Attorney General Jeff Sessions to immediately resign following bombshell revelations that Sessions lied during his confirmation hearings, as reported Wednesday by several media outlets including the Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, USA Today, CNN, Politico, the PBS News Hour and FOX News. Sessions is being investigated by the FBI for contacts with the Russian government during the election.
Warren said in a series of Tweets: “This is not normal. This is not fake news. This is a very real and serious threat to the national security of the United States. We need a special prosecutor totally independent of the AG. We need a real, bipartisan, transparent Congressional investigation into Russia. And we need the Attorney General – who should have never been confirmed in the first place – to resign. We need it now.”
GOP Sen. Lindsey Graham has called for Sessions to recuse himself from the investigation into ties between Russian and the Trump campaign. On March 2, Sessions announced he would do just that. He had said earlier that he “never met with any Russian officials to discuss issues of the campaign,” according to the Associated Press.
While recusal is a first step, Together We Will calls on members to contact their representatives to demand Sessions’ immediate resignation for lying under oath to the Senate.
